The high-resolution VN telescope captures and projects Earth-reflected light onto the spectrometers in wavelength ranges VIS (370-500 nm) and NIR (685-755 nm). The TNO-developed VN telescope includes nanometre-smooth mirrors and a novel slit homogeniser to eliminate heterogeneous slit illumination from Earth-albedo effects. It co-aligns extremely accurately with the US telescope.
The high-resolution US telescope captures and projects Earth-reflected light onto the spectrometers in wavelength ranges UV (270-370 nm) and SWIR (1590-2385 nm). The TNO-developed US telescope includes nanometre-smooth mirrors and a novel slit homogeniser to eliminate heterogeneous slit illumination from Earth-albedo effects. It co-aligns extremely accurately with the VN telescope.
Developed by TNO, the UV1 spectrometer unit covers the low wavelength range (270-310 nm). UV1-SO is designed for maximum imaging quality, minimum loss of light from straylight and contamination/degradation and optics stability to withstand high levels of vibration and shock within limited mass and volume.
The Sentinel-5 instrument is hosted on a polar orbiting satellite. It will provide accurate data about atmospheric composition and air pollution for 21 years. TNO developed the telescopes and UV1 spectrometer for Sentinel-5’s instrument. Unprecedented technological advancements ensure Sentinel-5 delivers the most accurate results possible.
